It's Tuesday, August 1st, and let me tel you, quite a few things happened on this date!

First off,  MTV network debuted in 2 million households on this day in 1987. Back then, they actually played music videos 24 hours a day. As some of you may remember, The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" was the first video shown, followed by Pat Benatar's "You Better Run". 

Next up,  it was in 1964 that The Beatles scored their fifth US No.1 single in seven months when 'A Hard Day's Night' went to the top of the charts.

In 1987, Bob Seger scored his first US No.1 single with 'Shakedown', taken from the film 'Beverly Hills Cop II'. The song was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, but lost both awards to Dirty Dancing's '(I've Had) The Time of My Life'.

In 1942, Jerry Garcia, guitarist and vocalist for The Grateful Dead was born on this day. 
 

The world was blessed on this day in 1986 with the fine piece of cinema known as "Howard The Duck."
 

In 1994,Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley confirmed they had secretly wed 11 weeks earlier. Their famous kiss happened 8 days later at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Let's end this with a way out there fact, on this day in 1876, Colorado joined the United States. Unfortunately, what Colorado is known for today was not also made legal on this date.
