Happy hump day, folks! Take a break from your Wednesday slump and let's go on a little historical tour through some of pop culture's most memorable moments that have occured on October 25th!

 

October 25, 1975: Art Garfunkel had his first #1 on the UK singles chart as a solo artist with his cover of "I Only Have Eyes For You", originally composed by Harry Warren and Al Dubin in 1934. Garfunkel performed his version of the song on the second-ever epsiode of Saturday Night Live, just the week before.

 

 

October 25, 1980: Barbara Streisand scores her fourth #1 album with Guilty, which was entirely written and produced by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. This day also marks the start of her three-week #1 streak on the UK singles chart with "Woman In Love", the lead single from Guilty that would go on to become one of the most successful songs of her career.

 

 

October 25, 1982: Today marks the premiere of the long-running American sitcom Newhart, which starred Bob Newhart and Mary Frann as an author and wife who worked as innkeepers in a rural Vermont town filled with eccentric characters. The show ran on CBS for a grand total of 184 episodes across eight seasons, before the series finale which aired May 21, 1990.

 

 

October 25, 1986: Bon Jovi hits #1 on the US album chart with their third and best-selling album, Slippery When Wet. Filled with instant international hits like "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer", and "Wanted Dead or Alive", Slippery When Wet spent a whopping eight weeks at number one, and went on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide. It is still to this day one of the top 100 best selling albums in the United States.

 

 

October 25, 1986: For the very first time in Billboard Hot 100 history, the top three spots were all held by female solo performers! The top spots were filled by Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors", Tina Turner's "Typical Male", and Janet Jackson's "When I Think of You".

 

 

October 25, 1997: And if that wasn't enough girl power for you: on this day in '97 the Spice Girls went back to #1 on the UK singles chart with "Spice Up Your Life", making them the only band ever to have their first five singles reach number one!
