Get Your Rear In Gear

Have you or someone you know been affected by Colorectal Cancer?  You can help in raising funds for awareness and a cure!  Austin Gastroenterology and Austin Endoscopy Center are pleased to announce the 2012 "Get Your Rear in Gear" 5K Run/Walk.  Join us as we "march forth" on March Fourth in support and memory of the millions affected by this disease.

FAQ:

What is "Get Your Rear In Gear"?
The mission of Get Your Rear in Gear is to ensure that all citizens have adequate information and access to screening for colon cancer.  We are sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers and friends who have been affected by colon cancer and want to do something. Some of us are colon cancer survivors while others are those who work to honor those lost to this disease. We are a coalition that has formed 5K's and other events in cities across the country, working together with health care providers, corporations and the media, to encourage people to "Get Your Rear in Gear" and talk about colon cancer with their doctor, their loved ones and everyone they know.  Together, we will positively impact this disease.

When is it?
Sunday, March 4th, 2012.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.  The Kids' Fun Run Dash begins at 8:15 a.m.  Official "Get Your Rear In Gear" 5K Timed Run will begin at 8:30 a.m sharp; if you wish to walk instead of run, start time begins at 8:35 a.m..

Where is it?
The 2012 "Get Your Rear In Gear" 5-kilometer Run/Walk starting line will be in the parking lot of the North Austin Endoscopy Center, located at 8015 Shoal Creek Blvd, Suite 300, Austin, TX 78757.  Located between West Anderson Lane and Steck Avenue, across from Lowe's on the east side of Mopac/Loop 1.  The major streets along the route will be closed to traffic and well marked along the five-kilometer route during the course of the event.

Who can participate? What if I'm not an experienced runner?
Austin Gastroenterology and Austin Endoscopy Center wish to cordially invite patients, friends, family, and the community at large to join us in March, 2012!  Anyone can participate, regardless of prior experience.  In fact, the entire course is wheelchair and stroller accessible, and there is no time limit.  Leashed dogs are welcome to participate too, as long as they are kept under control, retain a calm demeanor and are picked up after.

How much does it cost?
Adult registration fee is $35 in advance, and $40 on the day of the race.  A registration fee of $20 will be charged for children aged 10 and under for those participating in the Kids' Fun Run Dash.  75% of funds raised at each event are invested in local programs to raise awareness of
colon and rectal cancer, invest in innovative projects to help increase screening for
colorectal cancer, especially for the under- or non-insured, and provide support to those
affected by colorectal cancer. The funds are invested back into the community through
grants from the Colon Cancer Coalition, the business arm of Get Your Rear in Gear events.  Since its inception, the Colon Cancer Coalition has raised over $1 million for community
programs, screening, education and awareness.  Nearly 40 Get Your Rear in Gear events are currently being produced in states across the
country and the list is growing.
