32 Years of "Take On Me"

Happy October 19th! It's a pretty iconic day in pop culture history, as it marks the 22nd anniversary of the Norwegian trio A-Ha's climb to the top of the Billboard charts with their super smash hit single "Take On Me".

In 1985 MTV picked up the ground-breaking music video, featuring a love story between a real woman and a comic book drawing of a man who dance between their two realities. After receiving heavy rotation from MTV the song's popularity quickly rose in America, and in its 15th week of being on the Billboard charts it finally reached #1 status, making A-Ha the first Norwegian act to ever top the Hot 100. The video unsurprisingly dominated the MTV Music Video Awards that year as well, taking home the trophy in 6 categories including Best Direction, Best Concept, and Best Special Effects.
